Barrymore Furniture, which is one of the oldest furniture stores in Toronto, closed down this year after filing for bankruptcy in January. Founded in 1919, the company built and sold custom furniture in Toronto for over 100 years.

Like many in the home improvement and design industry, the people of Barrymore Furniture called the Castlefield Design District home. For those who don’t know, many interior designers and contractors have set up shop in this area the is just northwest of Dufferin and Eglinton. It has become a bit of a home improvement hub for homeowners looking for a variety of hoem reno services.

Barrymore Furniture had a showroom in the Castlefield Design District for many years and had built a reputation as a great place to go for sofas and chairs. Aside from sofas and chairs, the company also manufactured sectionals, beds ottomans, benches, sofa loungers, day beds, and sofa beds. The designs for the company’s furniture usually fell under classic or contemporary. The designers at Barrymore also prioritized designing furniture that would fit comfortably in condos

Much of the company’s in-stock items were put up for auction to recoup money for creditors.
